A few weeks backs I was invited to try the new menu of van ’t Spit thanks to MissPublicity. Van ’t Spit is a chicken restaurant in Rotterdam with a new menu. So it was the perfect opportunity to see what they have to offer. What I probably love the most about this place is when you walk in you instantly see the big grills and the delicious smell of long marinated chicken. They are marinated for over 24 hours before going on the grill (which they call the Spitmaster). Here are a few impression photos and what I thought about the new menu.
Van ’t Spit
This grill restaurant started in 2013 and was started up by four friends. They opened their first restaurant in Amsterdam and soon more cities like Rotterdam, Eindhoven, and Breda followed. And I was invited to try the new menu at the location in Rotterdam which is situated in Kralingen close to Oostplein.
With a group of around 18 people, we were seated at the back of the restaurant which is decorated in a typical American style. Think lots of wood and steel, giving it a really nice atmosphere. We first started with their famous chicken which is marinated for 24 hours in their homemade marinate which taste really good! I was pleasantly surprised cause you can easily overcook chicken! But this one was really tender and had a lot of flavour.
One of the things that are new to the location is the addition of more dishes that go further than just chicken. With this menu, they added other dishes like ribs, grill burgers, and pork sausages. Of course, we had the pleasure to try some and I have to say I was really amazed by how good the ribs and pork sausage are. The pork sausage is even made exclusively for them and has a really distinct flavour. So I was glad to hear not many people liked pork at my table. More for me…
After the food we even had dessert and I have to say I really loved the cheesecake but for me personally, a drink actually stole the show. They had their own version of limoncello made from fennel. And fennel really has to be one of my favourite vegetables so was surprised they managed to make that into a drink. Wish I still had some left…
You can find Van ’t Spit at the Oostzeedijk 272 in Rotterdam. Open from Tuesday till Sunday at 17.00. Or try delivery through Deliveroo, which I am actually thinking about doing this weekend.
