We love cinnamon rolls and since it’s Easter this weekend we thought it would be the perfect time to try this classic in a different form. Of course we had to try making a waffle out of it and boy were we surprised how splendid the result was! You get a crispy cinnamon roll with a delicious sweet taste and perfect smell. We love them even better with some glaze of powdered sugar and a little bit of water on top, but of course you can use whatever you like. Try to serve them fresh when they are still warm or shortly heat them up in your microwave. Happy Waffle Wednesday.
Cinnamon roll waffles
1 pack of instant yeast (11g)
1 cup butter milk
1/2 cup dairy butter
1/4 tsp. salt
3 cups flour
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
3 tbsp. sugar
Heat up the butter milk with 3 tablespoons of the dairy butter in a small pan to about 40℃ (or heat up for 40 seconds in the microwave and wait until it cools down to 40℃). Add this mixture to a mixing bowl and sprinkle the yeast over it on top, let this rest for about 10 minutes. After that add 2 tablespoons of the sugar and the salt to the mixture. Grab a whisk and while you stir add the flour in portions to the mixture until you get a sticky dough. For the last bit, it might be better to use your hands then the whisk. Grab the dough from the mixing bowl, clean it out and add some oil on the inside. Place the dough ball in it and cover with a kitchen towel and let it rest for about one hour.
On your kitchen table spread out some flour and start rolling out the dough till you form a rectangular shape. Grease this with the leftover dairy butter and top of with the rest of the sugar and cinnamon (You can add more if you want to make it sweeter).
Rol up the dough and cut in small slices of about one-and-a-half centimeter. Heat up your waffle iron and place four pieces close together for one waffle. Gentle press them together, but don’t worry about how firm you place them since the waffle iron will do the rest. Keep watch and grab them out of the waffle iron when they are a nice golden brown. Do remember to use a wooden spatula to grab them out of the waffle iron since the caramelised sugar is blazing hot! Serve with topping on top and enjoy!
Tip: make smaller portions by waffling 3 pieces or make baby cinnamon roll waffles by only baking one each.
