I’m always in for good ramen. And luckily it’s becoming really popular in Rotterdam with new places popping up. One of them is Hinoki which is situated close to the Markthal and Burgertrut, two other must-visits if you go to Rotterdam. From all the ramen places I’ve tried I have to say Hinoki has been my favourite, but if you guys know a good one I should try please let me know. Since I’m going Japan at the end of March I can’t wait to try more of it there.
Hinoki is located close to the Markthal, another place you will probably visit if you’re in Rotterdam. A little hidden and probably not on many touristic maps yet, but sure great to try if you want to have an authentic Japanese dinner in the city. It’s decorated in a typical Japanese way. Minimalistic with a nice touch of black, red and white. Chalkboards decorate the wall with the menu and a nice touch is the Facebook follower counter on the bar. Be sure to follow them on Facebook to be up to date with all the special they have. They order directly from Japan and also have seasonal ramen you probably can’t eat anywhere in Rotterdam.
Japanese ramen is a classical Japanese dish made from a good broth. At Hinoki they have shio, shoyu and miso as a base and with different kinds of noodles with toppings. It’s also easy to make yourself so be sure to try it. At Hinoki you can try many different kinds of ramen and also delicious starters. We tried the octopus balls which were amazing with the Hinoki tsukemen. This is a noodle soup with a base of pork meat and vegetables. The portions are quite big and they have a bunch of flavours. You can check the menu at this link. It was hard to make a decision but what I loved about the dish I had is that they served it with extra both in a teapot which you can use to reheat your noodles.
Hinoki is a place I’ll probably visit more often since they change the menu around each month with new seasonal dishes. Lots of things I still want to try like the kimchi and karaage. Be sure to visit them when you’re in Rotterdam, you won’t be disappointed. You can find them at Keizerstraat 52, 3011 GH Rotterdam.
