A few weeks back, I was invited to try dinner at Alan & Pims in Scheveningen. They opened last August there. It’s their second restaurant with a bit more cosy feel than the other one they have in Rotterdam. Perfect to combine with a day to the beach if you feel like having a nice dinner after a long summer day or maybe walking your dog on the beach in the winter months. Or just go only for the chicken cause I can tell you it’s definitely worth the ride there. Happy Monday guys.
For the people who aren’t familiar with Alan & Pims. It’s a chicken restaurant founded by, you might have guessed, Alan and Pim. With their famous chicken from the spit, you can enjoy chicken with fries, their delicious apple sauce, and more. They wanted to share their love for chicken and share this with other people and so the concept for this restaurant was born. The chicken from tante Door is a nice and tasty chicken which you can even track by webcam from the farm where they live. Nice to see restaurants being more conscious about where their food comes from and share it with the guests. Although I can’t really recommend watching the webcam while eating there although I’ve heard some people actually did.
On the menu, you can find several options to combine with a drink or even have them as a started for a three-course meal. Some of my favourites are the chicken bitterballen or the crispy kippeling. Anf if you can’t make up your mind you can always choose the Kipcombo which combines everything on a plate.
For the chicken from the spit, you’re probably going to Alan&Pims. Next to the classical Provencal herb or the variety with special Alan&Pims herbs they’ve also got some more exotic flavours. Like Bitter Sweet BBQ, which is served with popcorn, or the Thai Chicken. I just love spicy food so it wasn’t hard for me to pick the chicken. As side dishes we had crispy fries and corn. After the Kipcombo, which was already quite big, we we’re fully enjoying all the food.
Some more examples from the menu are the delicious sandwiches, with bread from Jordy’s Backery, for lunch or if you want something light you can always try out one of the salads. Another one I would love to try next time is the chicken burger.
For dessert we sadly didn’t have any room left, yes I can be full at times, but what I’ve read from the card I will be sure to try some in the future.
As mentioned before they have 2 restaurants. Both are nice and perfect places to sit and have dinner. But my personal preference would be the restaurant in Scheveningen. When I dine I prefer it to be quieter than most people and be able to clearly hear what people are saying without much effort. The restaurant in Scheveningen feels a bit more classical with lower ceilings and more room for people to sit which I prefer. But for a quick bite with friends, I’ll be sure to go Rotterdam. So it’s basically whatever you prefer since both restaurants have their good parts and I will probably go to Rotterdam much more cause it’s closer by.
And if you don’t feel like eating out you can always order from Foodora or Deliveroo. And best of all is they package in small carton boxes which make sure the fries stay crisp when they arrive.
