Last Saturday we switched our hometown of Rotterdam for a day hot spot hunting in Utrecht. One of the things we hope to do is surprise you with nice hot spots, delicious restaurants and of course, the best places to get coffee. One of these, where we had a delicious lunch was at LE:EN. This Asian restaurant exists since 2004 and since 2011 at the current location in a beautiful complex next to an industrial area. Nice to know the factory of Pastoe is next door. It’s not a typical place for a tourist to go when visiting Utrecht, but definitely worth to visit if you are in Utrecht. We’re curious about what you guys think!
When we arrived we were welcomed by Marcus (the manager of LE:EN) en took a place at the big wooden table in the middle of the restaurant. What immediately catches our eyes were the different kinds of furniture, plants and the lovely wall paintings made by Sjaak Kooij. A great place to go for lunch or work meetings, but also for a romantic dinner.
But we wouldn’t be Ourhangrykitchen if we didn’t come for the food. Shortly after we arrived we got a few small dishes wish looked amazing. At LE:EN you can order Asian tapas so perfect if you can’t make up your mind what to choose. We had a mix of cold and warm dishes with bread & dips. After a few photos, we were ready to dig in and loved all the different spices & textures. What we found really special was a chutney made from coconut & coriander. It looks a bit like the sweet coconut balls you see a lot but then a savory version wish tasted amazing. We also had swordfish tataki with avocado salsa, grilled salmon teriyaki served on a stew of sweet potatoes. After trying a few dishes, we still had some room left for dessert. They had a delicious cheesecake with passion fruit sauce on it. A really great dish to finish a well-filled lunch.
Great food and beautiful interior that shows the effort they put into all the details. It has a nice atmosphere. During the day perfect to relax with a cup of coffee or lunch with some small dishes. And at night perfect for a nice romantic dinner. The staff was friendly and well informed and take the time to explain any questions you might have about the dishes. We had a delightful lunch, thanks again LE:EN and Marcus for the experience!
You can find LE:EN at Heuvelhoord 140, in Utrecht. They just a new menu so certainly worth to visit when you’re in Utrecht.
