This recipe might sound a little weird especially for Dutch people. Dutch Egg cakes are a sweet dish consisting mostly of eggs which are served with the coffee or topped of with a sweet spread. But funny enough this tastes amazing combined with something savory as a hamburger. If you can’t buy Dutch egg cakes Google is your friend it really is something you should try to make!
Dutch Egg Cake Burgers
4 Dutch egg cakes
400g beef tartare
1 tsp. harissa
pepper & salt
1 small red onion (sliced)
1 tomato (sliced)
2 big lettuce leaves
1 tbsp. capers
2 slices of green pesto cheese
500g fresh frites (the non-fried version)
Baking spray (or a tbsp. of oil)
Start of with the frites. Place them on a baking tray add pepper & salt on top. Finish of by spraying some baking spray on the frites. Preheat the oven to 220℃. Place the frites in the oven for 20 minutes. While they bake start of with the burgers.
For the burgers mix the harissa and some pepper & salt together with the tartare. When mixed together make 2 balls and gentle press them down on a plate until they form the shape of a burger. Let them rest while you continue cutting the onion and tomato. Bake the burgers for about 3 minutes on each side, depending on how well done you want them. When finished wrap them in tin foil while you continue with the egg cakes.
About now the 20 minutes probably passed for the frites. The next step will be baking them brown and crispy. Heat up the grill in the oven and place the baking tray on the highest level in your oven. Grill for abut 4 minutes.
While the grill is on heat up a grill and add the egg cakes in. Grill for about one minute before taking them out. Check the frites and hussle them through and continue grilling them for another 4 minutes.
Start plating up laying one egg cake on the bottom. Add the lettuce and tomato on top. Place the burger on it with the slices of cheese. Top off with the onion and add some mayonaise and ketchup as a finishing touch. Lay the other egg cake on top and you’re done with the burger. Grab the frites out of the oven and lay them on the plate with the burger. Enjoy!
